Question How do I tighten the slack in my steering box?

My IROC (recently out of storage and running!) has a good bit of play in the steering linkage. It has a relatively new coupler on it. I heard I can tighten up the slack by making a couple turns on some screw on the box itself. I took a look and think I may have found it. Can someone help me identify if this is thae bolt I need to turn. It's in the top middle of the box. Also it seems to have an allen bolt on top of it. Turn that or the bolt....or what?

thats the one alright. but, do it little bits at a time. you only need to turn it a little bit. if you make too tight, you can ruin the gear. just turn it till the strg. feels tight and responsive again.
hope this helps.

Cool. Thanks. I'll give it a turn and see what happens.

I do it kind of like a wheel bearing. Tighten 'till you feel it bottom (don't crank it super tight) then back off about 1/2 turn. I've taken as much as 2 1/2" turns out of some really old steering boxes to get the slop out!

If the steering feels "sticky" while driving after performing this procedure then you've gone too far and need to IMMEDIATELY take it back home and back it off some.
