(700 R4) is there suposed to be a light that comes on? or is overdrive just 4th gear
is that the same as the lockup in the torque converter

 

With a 700R4 you are in OD when its in 4th gear (no light), you will also note a drop in RPM's. Example: 40MPH in 3rd will have about 2500 RPM's and when in OD @40 MPH the engine will turn 1000 RPM's.

 

yep, i get the rpm drop and i know its 4th just wondering what that little circle in my speedometer was for

how do i know if the torque converter is locking up corectly?
is that just what 4th is?
i ask to make sure becasue i heard that it can be damaging if it doesnt lock up

 

When you're up to speed and in overdrive (40+) nudge the throttle a bit, but not enough to make the trans downshift. Watch the tach, if it jumps up a couple hundred RPMs, the converter is not locked up. If the tach doesn't really move, and you should be able to feel a little "kick" from the acceleration, then the converter is locked. 4th is Overdrive and is not the same as the converter locking up.
