how close?

a buddy of mine is thinking about getting a 89 mustang gt 5-sp convertible. i have a 1992 z28 305 5-sp. both cars would be bone stock.

i know that a 5.0 is usually a little faster than the 305's cause they are lighter, but i figure a convertible will be heavier and my car has 77k miles where as his would be more around 140 or so.

can i win? if not, how close would it be considering equal driver skill.

Re: how close?

Do you have the dual cat option with 3.42 gears or the single cat with 3.08 gears?

Re: how close?

i think it may be a close race. i thought the ford 5.0 put out more power than the LB9 305 tpi.

Re: how close?

there are varying numbers but the 5.0 is around 225 and ive seen numbers ranging from 220-230 on the 305.

Re: how close?

Dual-cat cars should have 3.42 gears by default. Look at your RPO codes in the locking box in the trunk and see if you find G92 (perforance rear axle), N10 (dual-cats) and GU6 (3.42 gears).

sweet...so what all does that translate to for me? are 3.42 gears super sweet? whats the difference between the g92 axle and a normal one? how much power do the dual cats give me over a normal 305 z28?

Re: how close?

Performance axle just means the gear ratio, 3.42 is better than 3.08. Also the 3.42 rear ends will have disc brakes, the 3.08 has drums.
The dual-cat exhaust is rated at anywhere from 10 to 25 more horsepower, depending on who you ask.

Re: how close?

really i could run dead even in my dads ghetto 92 saab 9000 and those cars, looked like a grand mothers car, well it was, little turbo 4 cylinder.

Either way youre both going to be getting smoked by slow *** cars on the street.
