Main bearings shot, crank scored......options?
Main bearings shot, crank scored......options?
After yanking the motor my mechanic broke it down, our original goals were just to freshen it up. The mains are scored so bad thats not possible now. So what are my options? My mechanic suggested a short block, a 383 to be exact but I am seeing prices of 3k for forged pistons and shipped from TPIS or Golen, thats a LOT of money, am I looking in the wrong places?
All advice and input on any good shops you have dealt with would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Main bearings shot, crank scored......options?
In that case you might want to get it rebuilt as a 355 or something. If the cylinder bores are unharmed you might just need them rehoned. It wouldnt be too expensive (certainly not as much as a 383) to get a new crank, and bearings, and do a re-ring. Do a search on some engine rebuild options and see what comes up. Or ask your mechanic what other options there are.

This Company has a rebuilt long block 350 for about $1300.00 and a 383 for a little more.
They guarantee 7 years. I don't have any other info except that I found while searching
