well my friend's 91z has a leaky intake. so off it must come. what mods can i perform on them? i have heard of porting the plenum as well as the lower base portion? must stay cost effective here, buddy is short on $$$$
is a edelbrock base worth the money? then maybe hand port the upper plenum
tia for any suggestions.

Tanman,
Is he pulling EVERYTHING off? even the base part of the intake? If so and cash is an issue, I would just port the plenum. The main part is to get rid of the little "Walls" behind the throttle body holes. Those are about 10% of the opening and it helps a lot. As for the rest, I wouod just port match it as good as you can.
Getting into an aftermarket intake and runners can set you back $500-800 depending on what you get. If he has 200-300 to spend, i'd get aftermarket intake runners first(The middle tube parts)
. I got my used SLP set for $200 and did the extra port work myself. definately got my 350 to rev to 5500 instead of 5000. Knocked off .3 with just those and increasing the 1-2 shift rpm.
Goodluck man. Keep it simple and you'll be ok. Port the plenum and aftermarket runners if they're in the budget+ port matching.

Siamese port the base. It will greatly add to your upper RPM power and u will probably rev to 6000ish. Do a little porting too the heads too if you decide it's not too much trouble...

Autoroc, what took you so long to reply
the car is now in my garage, tomorrow we tear it apart
should be fun. yes the intake is coming off, we recently put on a good waterpump, i think it found a gasket that was just waiting to start leaking
oh well, time to fix it.
Yellowknifer,
thanks for the link that is awesome! it really helps out, you must've read my mind as this is exactly what i was gonna look for
i have all the tools i need to get this done! just might pick up some of the smaller bits. i figure we'll need a few days to get this done. then i get his drop top for a day, my choice

Most intake mods on a TPI are spendy, so porting is about all you can do for low cash flow.

If you siamese-port the stock intake, you shouldnt need anything else. You can also port the plenum, both the EGR walls behind the throttle body, and enlarge the runner holes on the side.
Dont port the heads while they're on the car. You'll get shavings every where, and thats a very bad thing.
