HELP!!!!!NEED INFO ON AXLES BY TOMORROW. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK I HAVE AN 87 IROC WITH THE 26 SPLINE AXLES, WELL I GOT A GOOD DEAL ON A POSI UNIT AND ITS A 28 SPLINE SO I FIGURE HEY HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO FIND 28 SPLINE AXLES RIGHT?WRONG I WENT TO THE BONE YARD AND COULD ONLY FIND 26.NOW I HEARD THAT THEY CHANGED THE AXLES TO ALL 28 SPLINE STARTING IN 88 BUT I GUESS THATS NOT TRUE CAUSE THE AXLES I GOT FROM THE JUNK YARD I MISSCOUNTED THE TEETH AND ITS 26 OUT OF A 89 RS.SO PLEASE TELL ME IF ONLY CERTAIN CARS HAD 28 SPLINE OR ONLY CERTAIN YEARS.PLEASE HELP I NEED TO KNOW BY TOMORROW CAUSE IM SUPPOSE TO GET IT ALL INSTALLED TOMORROW.

I sense a panic here. '88 was the cross over year, but some say it was '89. Do you have a 9 or a 10 bolt rear now? All 9 bolts have 27 splines...period. Since you have an '87, I would think you'd have a 9. If you've got the 10 bolt, look for a '90 on up rear. These will definitely have the 28s that you need.

Are you sure about your differential? The 87 IROC's came with 3.27 geared 9 bolts. It will have 9 bolts and a rubber fill plug on the cover.
9 bolt and 10 bolt axles are not interchangable.
If you do have a 10 bolt then either find a 90-92 third gen (good luck, production numbers were low for those years) or you can buy better aftermarket 28 spline axles from www.tomsdifferentials.com for $125 each.

Your Caps Lock key seems to be stuck.
Anyway, you can always buy new 28 spline axles from Moser Engineering. They are somewhere around $200. I'd have to dig out the receipt to be totally sure.
