Help, car is getting really bad gas milage

My girl fiend's 90' Formula TBI seems to be getting worse and worse with the consumption of fuel. Whenever I get on it decently, black smoke pours out the tail pipes. I had replaced the plugs and wires, coil, belt, fuel filter, cap and rotor, and air filter about 4k ago. There is an SES light that comes on that says that the "baro" sensor is a problem. Could this be causing my problem? What else could it be? Thanks.

To me black smoke is waying that you are running rich. When was the last time the O2 sensor was changed? That was my problem at one point in time. I am not sure if you have access to a scan tool, but if you do you might want to hook it up and look at your a/f ratio.

If it is TBI, you could take the air cleaner off and look at the fuel injector spray pattern. It should be a nice cone shape without any spitting or splashing of the fuel.

It could be the O2's. The car runs like crap when it is cold but when it warms up, it runs good. Maybe the car is waiting for the O2's to warm up?

If you really think it is the O2 sensor, take it out and take a look. If it is all sooted up, change it and see if the problem goes away. Best thing is to get a scantool and see what the ECM is reading then we can make a better guess.
