get a 10 bolt out of a 4th gen, it will bolt right up with no modifications needed. the wheels will stick out a little further but when i did it i liked how it looked better

i personaly built a bulletproof rear for mine. 600$ on parts from randys ring and pinion. and 600$ labor(including subframe connector install) and of course i opted for solid pinion spacers and the cover that takes stress off your main bearings. hope this helps a bit

I agree, I got a Zexel Posi from Randy's Ring & Pinion for about $330, and some 3.73 gears from a salvaged S10, and a rear cover brace for about $160 that has set-screws to brace the bearing caps, new bearings from Autozone.
I haven't did the axles yet, but Summit Racing or Jegs has'em at decent prices.

If I put the 4th gen rear end in my car will the brace from the transmission bolt up to it or will I have to fabricate something?

It'll bolt up b/c the 4th gens use the same dumbass setup too.

Guys at GM:
"Lets take all the stress from the rear twisting...AND PUT IT ON THE TAIL SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION!!!"

Everyone around him:
"HOLY @*&$ THATS A GREAT IDEA!!"

Nice to know this about the rear.

I put a 2001 aluminum driveshaft in my 3rd gen when I installed the new 700R with no mods.
