Headers?

I am wanting to put a set of shortys and y-pipe on my 88 305TBI car, what are the best ones to get, I do not want emmisions headers or ceramic coated. Just need a resonably priced set with a y-pipe to match. also it is a single cat car. Thanks guys

I'm not bashing you, but why go with the shorty headers, when long tubes are not much more for a third gen?

Because LT's on a basically stock 305 aren't gonna do ****. Even on a moderatly modified LT's aren't gonna do sht. Plus LT's are a BITCH to install on those.

Find some Heddman shorties. I had mine shipped for my 305 buildup for like 150$ to my door. Though for some reason, I can't find it on Jegs anymore

Go with heddman 1 5/8th uncoated shortys and a y pipe. Summit sells them or if you want used you can get them from thirdgen.org classifieds fairly often. Long tubes are stupid on a 305 not to mention the fabricating involved is a pain.. Theres people with shorties running 10's.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a very good quality header paint and give the headers and ypipe some good coats to prevent corrosion if you go the uncoated route.

Here is a list that popped up under 1988 Camaro 305. I bought the Edelbrock TES and like 'em. They came w/Y pipe.

I bought SLP shorties and y pipe in the classifieds at thirdgen.org. The don't make them anymore. I had the Edelbrock TES headers and they looked like crap next to the SLPs. The Edelbrocks just don't have the same build quality as the SLPs IMO. Although I dunno if the 1 3/4 primaries will be good for a 305. But anything has to be better then stock manifolds.

Yep those are exactly the ones I'm talking about. For some reason I couldn't find them on Jegs though Go uncoated, then buy hi-temp paint and just slap some spray paint black on them. Or find a buddy who powder coats for cheap.

Like I said. This is what I'd do.

I've heard bad things about these headers.
And ask Pneumatic Tire what he thinks of his. Last I knew, he wanted to get rid of the Eddies and grab some Heddmans like i TOLD HIM TO!! (Jon!!)

No emissions check in Chicago? You are lucky. I'm looking for emissions headers for my weekend only '88 305 TPI.... figuring I'm getting a lucky break on taxes here I'd like to buy a set to replace my rusty stockers.

I hear ARP bolts are recommended but Stage 8 Bolts too because theyre the locking type.

What type of header gaskets do most on this forum use? Experienced users feel free to reply lol

Summit has been good to me before, thanks for the link too!

I would stick with the SLP's or something else besides the Edelbrock TES, even though they are Emissions Legal and not too bad of an install, the coating wears off pretty quickly and they start to rust.

I will probably replace them at some point.
