Headlight Dimmer Switch

The headlight dimmer switch on my 92 RS is acting odd. If you leave the wheel at a resting position (it does have tilt wheel) the switch won't engage . However, if you put downward pressure on the wheel or put it in the LOWEST (to where it is locked under the lowest setting) and use the switch it will work fine and the lights will switch from high to low beam.

Has anyone ever had this problem, and if so can you shed some light on how to fix it?

Thanks
Joey

The dimmer switch is actually at the BOTTOM of the steering column. It's a little white can lookin thing with a rod coming out of one end. The trun signal lever moves the rod which actuates the switch. The switch has slotted holes for adjustment....loosen the 2 8mm bolts holding it to the column and see if you can slide it up a little to take the slack out of the rod.

Does the steering wheel have to be removed to access the bar or can I remove the plastic column somehow?
