When you order headers off of say Jegs, do they come w/ the gaskets, bolts, and everything else?
I really pray they do, lol..

Yes they come with everything you need to install them with

 

Unless Jegs is different than Summit, some headers will not come with all hardware, but there is usually a footnote about it. Read carefully.

 

Normally the Gaskits they ship are not the best in the world so ya want to get better ones.

 

Well, the shorties came today Only problem is, the paint is CRAP on them; there is already nice shiny steel spots on them But hey.. nothing a little bit of 900* engine paint couldn't handle
Why are the gaskets they send usually junk though?

 

The gaskets are a freeby from the manufactorer of the header so there usually pretty genaric.

How often do header-leaks occur?

 

I agree the included gaskets always suck.If you have stock heads, the best sealing ones are the silver one and two port gaskets from fel-pro[stock replacement] if you have a larger port I like their race gaskets. Torque em, run to temp,let it cool all the way, torque em again.Run it through a few cycles[drive it on errands all day or something] then torque em again.

But.. I also bought a Fel Pro engine-rebuild gasket set. Will the gaskets they come with be ok, or will they only fit the original exhaust-manifold?

 

If you're at all concerned with header leaks, use nothing but a copper or aluminum gasket. Forget about anything else. Header leaks are pretty much a given, even if you spend too much on some fancy locking bolts. Paper or pressed style usually blow out when they leak. Copper and aluminum just need to be retorqued.

Some headers come with hardware and gaskets, some don't. Some require an expensive special install kit. ALL ARE JUNK!

 

^Ahh, thanks for the reassuring words lol. I am pretty sure that the gaskets that came w/ my Hedmans are aluminum. They are silver anyhow, so I assume aluminum. I didn't take them outta the package so I wouldn't know.
BTW.. what does your car run? You have quite some work done to it

 

85_305 - Updated the sig. Fastest recorded time was a 13.8@99, however that was years ago and before the exhaust, gears, different intake, and a few other things. No current times, but its minor bolt-on LS1 territory now.

And I would double check to see if Hedmann provided aluminum gaskets. If so thats great, and they've come a long way. Changing header gaskets isn't difficult, but it is quite frustrating and time consuming. Do it right the first time.

 

But your sig still doesn't sa what it runs, lol. Either way that seems like quite the beast of a car
Right now, the headers are at the gf's house. I wont see them until after work tomorow, but I will be sure to check and post the answer I really hope their aluminum anyhow....

 

I don't know what it runs as is now, so I don't include it. No point in advertising an old combo time. Also, I don't advertise my rwhp numbers like a badge of honor. I'll leave that to the LS1 and Cobra crowd
