Question Header clearance from steering........

I went to put my headers in last weekend and when I did on the drivers side, the header contacts the steering. There is a space about the width of a piece of paper between the two, and this is WITH OUT the header gasket. Anyone else out there had this problem? What is the best way to roll the tube on the header so it clears the steering? Any info is appreciated........ Thanks!

Just out of curiosity what headers are you trying to use?

A slight indentation made at this point will give you the clearence you need and will not hurt the performance of the headers. A BFH is the standard tool for this operation.

Never had that problem with mine. I have the same setup. However, I wonder about your engine mounts. I had mine changed and the tranny mount too with poly ones. Maybe your old rubber ones are sagging and causing this problem? Mine never even came close when I installed them.

i had to use the BFH method. i used a ball peen back side. not pretty, but the car hauls *** with the headers, so it was worth it!!

for the next time, try heating the header tube and place a socket (5/8 or so) where you want the indention, THEN knock it with a BFH.

looks much better that way. thought i would share my tip. good luck.
