harmonic damper install question

I'm installing a tbi motor into an older chevy truck, and my pulleys weren't lined up so I took off my harmonic damper. When I put it back on do I put the key in first? or put it in after the damper is on?

Re: harmonic damper install question

the inside key has to be in, because that is what lines up your balancer....but the front key doesn't even come in contact with the balancer if I remember right...but when everything is said and done, they both should be in there...

Re: harmonic damper install question

Put the key in the keyway first, then slide the balancer on over it. That's the only way it will go together.
