Harmonic balancers effect on engine revs!!!!
Harmonic balancers effect on engine revs!!!!
I like a car that when you rev the engine up to 5500RPM's or so the engine quickly returns to idle RPM. These engine typically rev up quickly too. My 2005 Vibe revs up slow and stays up high even after I let off the accelerator
. Its new and nothings wrong with it. Its just made that way. When I'm driving on the highway and let off the throttle the car doesn't slow down much. I gotta brake more than I would in the IROC. I'm wondering if the Vibe has a very heavy balancer that once wound up keeps the car at a more steady speed to get the advertised 36 MPG. The IROC emmediately starts to slow down when I lift off the gas. If anyone knows what I'm talking about help me answer this question. Can I change the balancer on my Vibe to make the engine drop RPM's faster? Its kinda like a 2 stroke motorcycle vs. a 4 stroke. Any thoughts?

It's mostly the idle air control system that's keeping it from being snappy on decel. It might be ETC on that in '05, so there's not much you can do without a computer and tuning software.

CHINA!!!! Man you gotta be going through some serious Camaro/GTA withdrawl. Well, I'm sure this site makes you feel at home a little. Thanks for the post info. I'll look into changing this. It really is annoying to brake so much. Yes I'm tailgating a little but I commute to DC. Since your an EFI engineer I gotta question for ya. Would you recommend for a currently TPI motor a miniram http://www.tpis.com/index.php?module...niRam+Manifold or a Holley stealth ram http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
