Why dont you just fix up the third gen and put a better set of brakes on it?

Who cares about ABS braking, really WTF.

Ok, since nobody is really giving you any real help besides bashing your idea, here's my suggestions to do what you want to do.

If you want to eliminate the distributor all together you can do it by going to coil packs. Problem is that is will be expensive to do. Really the only way I can see to do it is to go EFI and use a engine position module like the one AEM sells here.

BUT people have done this swap while still using the distributor, you just need to use a short one.

Obviously you'll have to adapt the motor mounts. One way I've heard of people doing this is by using a LT1 crossmember. The motor mounts are the same as a normals SBC on those. Otherwise you could motor plate it or build your own adapters. I don't think anyone makes adapters to bolt a SBC1 to a gen 3 crossmember but if you have any fabricating skills it won't be too bad.

As for headers just use LT1 headers.

Why ask here!? I know you're on TGO. Contact 87_TA, or just look through his posts over the last couple of years. He totalled his well built 87 (MiniRam 406 IIRC), and swapped the powertrain into a 94 V6 car I believe. He can answer all your questions.
