GEN 1 engine in a 4th gen?

Not sure if this is in the right section but here goes. I want to swap my drivetrain in my 91z into a 4th gen. My only issue may be the distrubutor location. Does anyone see any other issues with my installing my 350 into any 4th gen car? IS there a way I can eliminate the dist and use something different?

you can use a crank-wheel setup such as megasquirt for engine management.

You want to throw a L98 motor into a 4th Gen that has a LT1 or LS1 motor from the factory why???

I wouldn't transfer ANYTHING that came from a 3rd gen into a 4th gen.

Motor: Sucks
Transmission: Sucks
Rear end: Sucks

EDIT: And even if you do have a "built" Gen I 350... sell the bitch and get a LS1.

yes I want to because my current engine will outperform any 4th gen engine by a long shot.

my camaro is just worn out. It has a poor braking system, no ABS, etc. The 4th gen offeres a few extra upgrades from the 3rd gen. Plus 90% of my parts will swap over without issue

Many people have a old sbc in their 4th gen. I've seen a few V-6 to old sbc swaps. IIRC the dist was ok. That is about all i know though. It has been done, heck if people can get a BBC in there, this is easy. Mod for Mod the LSx motors will out perform any old SBC, otherwise GM wouldn't be using them

Mod for mod, is correct on the sbc vs LSx. That is until you get into the real high end stuff. Sure the LSX is getting more and more support but they dont have things like CFE canted valve heads or SB2, little chiefs etc. Then again a REAL big block will smoke all those small blocks (sbc, ltx, lsx even ford, mopar etc) lol. Too bad I dont have BB money just a lowly LT1.

Great info....wtf does that have to do with his question? hahahaha

Goodluck bottled, there's plenty of info if you search...along with the guy above's post he mentioned. I've seen short dist. caps work, carbs turned sideways on tall intakes, trimmed windshields/cowls, crank triggers...lots of options for what you're doing.

Motor : different
Trans: all except the T56 was used in 3rd gens.
rear end: same as 4th gen.

Ahh the great Gen I SBC to the LS1 debate. F*ck the Ls1. Its over rated. If you want to get a Gen III motor, get a 5.3 or 6.0.

Besides, Noone can argue that a GEN I SBC is the cheapest motor to build.

I work on alot of 4th gens, when we do them for BBC, SBC, more clearance on an LSX, LTX etc. We cut the cowl back to the windshield and run an extended hood. It works great as long as you dont want wipers lol. But if you have a built sbc and want to transfer it, go for it. Its your car. 3rd gens have a bit more room in the front from the factory though. They are essentially the same car past the firewall to the rear.
