Question Gas Tank

gas actually leaks from the back of the car(back by the gas tank, off to the one side-the driver side of the car i believe)... the hotter out it is the more it leaks. i hardly have a problem with it in the winter, but in the summer it's a pain in the ***. i have found a way to prevent the gas from leaking though... once i park my car after driving it i get out and open the gas cap about half to let the pressure out and i leave it half way open until i get in to drive it again, but before i leave i close the cap... this IS a pain in the *** but it seems to stop it from leaking most of the time. BUT this only works if i have less then half a tank of gas, otherwise there is no pressure to let out, therefore my car leaks gas. so it seems like as long as i keep the tank under half and let the pressure out after driving, it's fine, but otherwise my tank will leak.
WHAT IS WRONG?

you are gonna have to put a whole new tank in your car, it's gonna be hard to stop a leak in your gas tank since you can't weld around it!

I got a new one from www.gastanks.com because I didn't want to futz with getting the old one welded up and maybe have another leak later.

But yes, you will have to drop the rear end. If it is not too much, this might be a good time to get a new pump.

Definately get a new pump. You dont EVER want to do this again.

Things like having to remove your front suspension to put in new motor mounts are a serious pain in the ***, however there is at least some logic to the whole process. Droping the tank is just pain without logic. I still am baffled at how they got that SOB in there to begin with. You will need the following supplies:

1 new tank
1 new pump (and other goodies, the sock for the bottom of the pickup, etc)
1 case of beer
1 weekend

First jack up the back of the car as high as you can using the 'frame' and remove the rear tires.

You will have to remove anything that might be in the way, Exhaust, Panhard Rod, all the heat shielding for the tank, your sanity, etc.

Disconnect all the appropriate things from your rear end. Torque arm, shocks, etc and let it drop until you swear you are going to rip the brake line off. Support it with a jack or something so it doesnt go any further than you want or pitch forward or back.

You are obviously going to want to do this with an empty tank, so perhaps this should be the first step, but drain that sucker. I chose to power the pump with a battery charger and disconnect the front fuel line. Then I just let it run into some gas cans I had for my dirt bike.

Now you are ready to drop the tank. Disconnect the tank straps and then try to manuver that sucker out. I dont have a strategy for this, but I can tell you that pulling on it for eight hours and calling it a Dirty Mother ****er doesnt work that well. You may want to try something more scientific.

Putting it back it is somewhat less complicated.
