fuel pump relay, and getting power?
i do think my fuel pump went bad on me, but i would like to check all the other possibilities before going through the hassle.
when i turn the key, there is no sound at all from the fuel pump. the fuse at the fuse block under the dash is good. im not sure how to check if the relays near the engine are good. not even sure which one is which.
i also took off the connection near the front of the tank, i believe that is the power for the fuel pump. it is a connector with 3 prongs. i checked it with a test light, both with the key on and off and still nothing. i tried to hook up the prongs going to the fuel pump to another battery directly to make it run but nothing.
can i use another battery to test if the pump is even coming on? which of the prongs need +, and - power?
thanks guys.

Sounds like one or two things.......It could be the relay (which is located on the driverside firewall...one all the way to the left) not getting power. Or it could be the VATS system.....(depending which year model you have..some had it some did not). I would put my money on the relay.

3 wire pump connector......as I recall the tan wire is power to the pump, green wire is fuel level sensor, and I can't remember what the other is. If it's black it's reasonable that it could be the ground for the pump/sensor. Otherwise I'd say the pump grounds through the tank.
As far as relays go just take them off and switch them out. It's very unlikely for them both to go bad at once. Try this before you go pluggin into wires with a seperate battery.

well i did change the relay at first, still didnt work, but it was only $10, and it looked nasty.
then changed the fuel pump (not fun at all), the strainer, and new fuel filter.
now it does work and i hope i dont have to do that project for another couple years.
