FINALLY bought another third gen!!

ok guys, as many of you know, my beautiful 88 camaro was totalled on june 26th of this year. ive been looking ALL over the place, gone and looked at tons of cars, researched pricing, insurance and everything else trying to find a good 350 TPI third gen to drive and i was comming up with nothing until finally, i found one that seemed decent. i called the guy. the ad said it was an 87 z28, rebuilt 350/700R4 setup, ceramic coated headers, MSD ignition and tons of other new parts. turns out it wasnt a TPI 350. it came a carbed 305, but he took a block from his 95 pickup and built a 350 for it.
here's what it's got:
holley 750 dual feed carb, holley street dominator intake, sweet GM high flow heads with sodium filled exhaust valves, a cam that he is going to have to find the cam card for cause he doesnt remember what it is, but it sounds mean, black bowtie center bolt valve covers, MSD distributor, MSD blastmaster 2 coil, MSD 6AL ignition control box with 6k rpm rev limit, jegs custom throttle linkage, chrome holley air filter cover and some engine dress up on it. its quite a beautiful engine. the engine itself has 4k miles on it, the tranny has about 400 miles on it. inside its got an A pillar gauge cluster with a full set of white faced auto meter gauges reading oil pressure (pressure line run by a steel braided hose... very nice), voltage and water temp, and hanging off the dash is a big 4 1/2" white auto meter tach with large shift light. in the back seat sits a set of KYB GR-2 gas shocks, a full set of 1" drop eibach springs and a brand new full carpet set that he hadnt installed yet, still in box, and a full set of polyeurothaine (sp?) bushings.
its quite the sweet deal. the car's an IROC with t-tops also! fire engine red with grey interior, perfect t-top bag and all. the hood has a NASTY clear coat problem, but the rest of the car is fine and theres only one little TINY ding that you wouldnt even notice in the driver door unless it was your own car. about 20 minutes and some bondo before it goes in for paint will take car of that

i went to pick it up friday night and i got 10 miles down the road and the tranny gave out. it wont go into 3rd or 4th gear, so ive been messing with it at my shop (after getting it towed at 3 in the morning) and starting today ive just been driving around with it in 2nd (runs about 2500 rpms at normal driving) and we are trying to find a way to get the transmission swapped under warranty from advanced auto, cause thats where he bought it, but the warranty isnt transferable.

anyway, i got the car for 2500 bucks cash. what do you guys think??

Sounds badass man. I am hoping to switch out the crappy 305 I have and build something awesome like that. Good luck with the tranny.

sounds like an awesome deal. are they Vortec heads?

if ur not sure, just look at the intake and if its held on by 4 bolts on each side (2 at the front,2 at the back) that go straight down...they are Vortec heads.

Re: FINALLY bought another third gen!!

i believe they are, rice killer. i was lookin at one of them very closely todya cause i thought i saw a crack in the intake where one of the bolts goes in, but it turned out being a very small little stream of adhesive left over from when the guy put the intake gasket on, and as i remember the bolts did go straight down.

the tranny is slipping really really badly sometimes when i step on the gas, and its just killing what performance i have in first and second gear (cause the tranny wont shift into third so im putting around town at 3000 rpms all day long, burning the hell outta some premium gas) but i was sitting at a stop light at a left turn lane today behind a mustang cobra SVT and i saw the guy look at me in his side mirror before the light turned green. he went to leave the light and i stayed right behind him and then i heard his engine rev up real hard so i slammed on the petal and the tranny slipped BAD all the way through first gear and lazy shifted into second, and his engine was steady just pushing, and once i was in second the tranny still kept slipping a little and the engine was bogged down from me feeding it too much fuel through the carb at low engine speed, but it still stayed right on his *** and i actually had to let off the gas for a minute in order not to rear end him! at about 65mph i let off of it, seeing as how i was still in second, and he ended up changing lanes and pulling off to a road on the right anyway.

i cant wait to get another tranny in there that will actually hook up. i would have left him in the DUST! and that's an svt cobra! not just your ordinary GT. i cant wait....
if this car actually stomps SVTs like i think it will, i'm going to change my lisence plate from "VTEK THS" to Snake Charmer (if i can find some way to make that fit on a plate) cause that would be just sweet. i'll have pictures soon for you guys
