Fan Switch
Fan Switch
I noticed my fan was not turning on when it was suposed to. I put power directly to the fan so I know it works. I put power to the relay and I am very sure that it works since I heard it click with the power. I just today, replaced the fan switch. Shouldnt I be able to ground the wire lead to the switch to the engine block thus starting the fan? I do this and its not working. Is there anything else I can do to test the problem with the fan not coming on? I have 12 volts running on the lead between the fan switch and the relay, btw.
I can't remember the exact details, but maybe someone else can. With everything hooked up normally, you can test the relay with a jumper. If the fan doesn't turn on, it is a bad relay.
It could also be a bad wire from the fan switch to the relay.

I think I finally found the problem. I hope I have the time to look for it tomorrow. Tonight I took the relay from the coil and connected the red(hot wire) to the black/red which goes to the fan and I got nothing but a small spark. This led me to believe there may be a short or its not grounded due to the ground wire being bad. I put another wire to the ground on the fan and to the engine block, and sure enough i got smoke. I think I have a short near the fan, basically around the air filter canister.
