Megashifter Install

I just want to let everyone know that installing this is a test of patience and takes all day. I installed mine yesterday, and it looks much more manly than the stock piece. I have seen questions on this message board asking if you have to cut the stock console; the answer is yes. Just some info I wanted to pass on to my fellow f-body owners.

its B&M right...if so, i have mine installed and it should have been ready to go. but the the shifter won't shift out of park and reverse. the only thing i can think of is the cable snagging on something.

We installed one on my friends 82, wasn't too hard.
Only thing I didn't like is how stiff it is. He said it should loosen up after a few uses (he used to have one before).

Yes it is B&M. Mine is stiff too, I was hoping after some use it would loosen up some. They give you so much extra cable that you have to loop it in a circle on top of the transmission, I hope that it is not binding in any way.

yeah like everytime I take the shift cable off it is stiff for like a week or so then loosens up. Also you don't have to cut the console itself, jsut the console plate, another problem I had was mine kept coming up and hitting the shifter plater during shifting at first, it is definately a nice piece. I actually put a flame ball on mine that lights up

The Megashifter is by far one of my favorite mods that I've done to my car. It makes driving so much more fun, if you like to manually shift the gears.

If its not shifting out of park, etc then make sure that you have the cable routed the way they show you in the directions otherwise it will not work the way its supposed to.... learned that the hard way. Also you should check and see that the arm that you mount to the trannie is facing the correct way and that you have adjusted the tab (the thing that screws onto the shifter cable and fits into the arm) so that it just barely slides in and out of the hole for at least park, reverse, and 1st gear. Thats a wicked PITA but its really the only way to get it perfect.

Lungz:
My console did the whole moving thing when I downshifted, if you pull the boot off and look at the mechanism you will see that there is a tab that hits the edge of the console.
I filed this part down so that it was even w/ the rest of the piece.
When the boot is off, pull the handle back so you're gonna downshift, then hold it there when it ratchets down. The piece in the middle moves and the tab on that hits the console. If you look at it you will know exactly what i'm talking about.

Just figured I would let you know that there is an easy fix to it if it keeps up.
