Engine Swaps

What engines could I swap in my car, and could i keep the 5 spd if possible with any other engine? I was thinking of getting one of those buick grand national engines, i know some trans am's had them and they ran a low high 13- low 14 stock.

Re: Engine Swaps

I think the head castings on the 89 TTAs were different than the GN heads for clearance reasons. So you'd have to fork over a gonad to make this happen. If you want more power, and don't want to go with a bigger sbc, go for an LSx. LS1tech.com has an engine swap section if you want to investigate.

Edit: forgot to add: buy an engine/tranny unit so you could go 6 speed.

Re: Engine Swaps

hey i have a 84 Z28 and if you want to swap engines DO NOT put a 3.8 out of a grand national in it, for the price you would pay for a rare engine like that i would build a 327 small block, Not a 350 or a different 305 the shorter stroke of a 327 gives you a higher rpm and top end power that cant be beat

Re: Engine Swaps

go over to turbobuick.com...this has been done many times over look for a guy named flyingta...you must stick with either the 700r4 or the brf 200...if you go with the inferior 200 then you need a driveshaft, cross memeber and other things specific to the 89 TTA...(yes gm made one) some of the parts are available oem!
