Dying up top

Once my car hits about 3 grand I can feel it stop pulling. It used to stop pulling around 4 grand. I think it may be my fuel filter being clogged cuz I am gonna change it tommorow. Can anyone think of any other possiblities???

Two things, worn or damaged valvesprings or weak fuel system/pump.

Compression test it. If that checks out then go for the fuel pressure and spark.

I do think my valve seals are going because it smokes oil on startup. Would this also mean my valve springs were going?

Not necessarily true. But in any case, how would you change seals without removing the valve springs? Would be a neat trick to watch. So, with it out, why not check them at the same time?

How would you be able to tell if the valve springs are bad?? I am not an auto mechanic or anything.

ull need a valve spring tester. u sit the spring on a flat piece on the tester, pull a lever down and another flat surface presses down on the spring and there is a gauge on it to tell u how much resistance it has (i think its resistance).
