dist. trouble

dist. trouble

finally got the new motor in now trying to put it back together but having some issues putting the distributor in a sbc brought motor to top dead center #1 then line up the rotor were it should be, then jsut drop the distributor in , but theres the problem it drops in but only so far there still about a 1/2in between the bottom of the dist. and top of the intake? what could be the problem? confused:

The gears have to line up. Try pulling up and turning the distributor back a little bit, and when it gets to where it's stuck, turn it in the direction that it normally spins and it should drop in.

Ps. Make sure the oil pump is lined up as well.

That last 1/2" is just the oil pump shaft not lining up. It's not a big problem....just hold steady pressure on it and bump the engine over. It'll drop right in.
