Digital Dash question?

I've found an '88 GTA that I might be possibly interested in, and it has the digital dash. I've heard that they sometimes are problematic. Are there any real issues with the digital dash in terms of reliability and parts etc?

finding one driving with digital dash is just as hard as finding one for parts i would call aruond.there are companies around that rebuild those clusters but don't know names off the top of my head/they do have their problems but so does every other car out there.that is rare now(around here in mass) if you do get it good luck

No factory digtial dash, only aftermarket and in most cases not made anymore. It will be a crap shoot with one in the car. But you can always find a stock gage cluster.

I had an 87 with the digital dash. I never had any problems. The factory digital were green display. Aftermarket have a red or blue display usually. Here is mine. It also had the fully adjustable headrest just like the GTA. Mine was a 305 TPI.

If you do have probs at some point you can always just replace it with a non-digital dash out of a junkyard car.

while I don't have first-hand experience with them, I don't believe swapping from digital to analog clusters is nearly as easy as it's being stated here. I've read about them, and they certainly aren't plug and play going from analog to digital. You should read up more on thirdgen.org about it before assuming you can swap to analog if the digital one breaks.

Ok thanks. Yeah I was going to ask whether or not it is a simple switch of the guage clusters.

Can anyone explain to me what are the known major problems with them? Do they just short-circuit, crap out, or have glitches?
