Delayed Throttle Response?

I have a 1990 IROCz 305tpi.

Now, my question is:

Is it normal to have a half second delay in throttle response? Reason I ask is that I always expect the car to take off but theres a slight delay when I step on it, and then it just seems like its not pulling as hard as it should.

Heres what happens in sequence:

Pedal goes down....rpms shoot up...THEN car accellerates faster.

Its got Summit Shorty Headers on it, Hedman YPipe, Flowmaster dual out muffler, TB bypass, Gutted airbox, 10 degree timing advance, ACCEL Coil and 8.8mm wires. IMO I think I have a fairly free flowing setup, and I just think it should be responding right away and pulling a tad harder. Could this be due to a vacuum leak somewhere? If so, where are common vacuum leaks?

is the tranny downshifting, or does it feel like it's slipping at all, and then grabbing?

Ehh, I was afraid you'd say that. Its not really slipping or downshifting, but its like at times, the rpms shoot up 1000-2000 and I can hear the engine revving higher, but I get no response for a half second.

Re: Delayed Throttle Response?

Have you checked the timing? If it the initial advance is retarded it will make the car lazy and sluggish. Just another suggestion besides the tranny...

Yes, timing is accurate, and was advanced to 10 degrees not too long ago.
