Has anyone ever bought one of these? I have the '87 in my signature.

Do I need the all mechanical or all electric dash?


I want this one with the 160mph odometer. The mechanical only have 120mph. My new engine is being installed and I want a new odometer to match the miles on the engine.

EDIT: The mechanical dont appear to have high beam or turn signal lights as required by state inspection. But the electrical does have the warning lights.

 

It depends... Pull your original guages and see if it is mechanical or electrical. I know that you would have to get a speedo sending unit. elckers has one... but its a little pricy just like the complete dash... heres a link to the sending unit.

I have been looking into one of the complete guages too. I think you could always use a drill and turn the speedo to the millage you want.. i dont know fo they ask you for the correct mileage when you order or what.

 

I'll have a DMV inspector come look at the original while its in the car. He will then rivit an odometer plate in the driver door. It will display the original odometer reading. Then I'll just have to add the new odometer miles to the door plate to get the chassis actual miles. In Virginia you cannot turn miles ahead on a new odometer. It will cause the car to be T.M.U.

I will pull the gauges and see. I'll post the progress. It might be a while as I'm sure DMV will not send anyone to quickly. Thanks.

 

When I had to replace the speedometer in my Blazer a few years back the company I bought it from asked what my odometer reading was and reprogrammed the new speedo to match.

I wish these folks made this gage cluster for my '92 Z28, that looks cool.

 

your 87 camaro will have a cable driven speedometer. oddly enough, the firebirds went to the electronic speedometer before the camaros did. I think Firebirds switched in 86 and Camaros switched in 90. Those are pretty nice looking gauge setups, but they're pricey from what I recall.

just buy the plastic from them and the gauges from someone else what i did and it fit very well a lot cheaper 2

 

I did a Summit Racing garage and spent a good while working up gauges to put in the plastic. It will save me over $320. I might just do that instead. I chose the Z-series to go with a more factory look.
