Coolings fans

Does anyone have a clue why both my engine fans are on all the time? I think it has been like that since i bought it. The temp gauge works fine and no one has messed with the wiring. With a stereo amp and 2 fans running at idle it draws a lot of amperage.
Thanks for any help

Re: Coolings fans

Bad A/C pressure switch or bad fan switch in the pass side head, would be my guesses.

Re: Coolings fans

the previous owner could have wired them to run all the time.

do they come on when u turn the key on or only when its running?

Re: Coolings fans

My A/c was removed. Will that cause both of them to come on. No one messed with the wires I'm the 3rd owner and I know the second owner who is a middle-aged woman.

Re: Coolings fans

mine is just like that, i was like that before i took out my A/C so i don't think that affects it. on your passenger side there is a one wire temp sensor and it has control over wether or not it runs, its suppose to be a safety feature. what i did is cut the wire and ran it through to a switch inside the car and now i can turn it on or off at will. you have to remember about it but i think its better than having it run when it 20* out and i'm trying to warm the engine up.

Re: Coolings fans

just to let you know i figured out that that one wire sensor is the direct controller for the fan, and the other being the A/C turning on. there are a couple ways you can fix your problem, one is if you cut the wire to the sensor and the if you didn't take out your A/C relays you can put the A/C on low and it will kick on the fans when needed. a second is to cut the wire from the sensor and run the wire coming out of the harness to a switch inside the vehicle and turn it on and off at will. a third is to replace your cooling fan switch (that one wire sensor) with either a stock one that operates from 238*-214*F which i think is too high or an aftermarket one that operates at a lower 200*-185*F. i can give you the link to the second one if you want and i actually think its cheaper than the stock one. with replacing the cooling fan switch you don't have to worry about overheating and thats what i'm going to do (screw the pain of having to use a switch all the time).

Re: Coolings fans

Yeah I did remove my A/C. I thought that the A/C only controlled one of the fans and the computer controlled the other. I don't think that I really need both fans on in the winter!!! I don't like switches either only last resort. My father-in-law puts switches on anything that stops working instead of fixing the right way. He has used home wall switches for things in his car. AAAAHHHH drives me crazy.
