I Got $2000..what can I do?

Im tired of my 305 and what I have done to it. I got my hands on $2000...what can I do with that? How far will that take me in a 350? I want the most power I can get...........I wanna go low 12's
What should I do? I can use some of the stuff off my 305

New short block with good cam...and aluminum heads?

I dont know? Im new at this game.

I say go for a 350 shortblock, maybe a set of used aftermarket heads, a decent cam, gears, LCA's, and a torque arm.

should be able to find a used LT1 engine.

swap over the rockers and do some minor upgrades and you should be at about 325 to the wheels.

not 12s but you'll be closer.

with only $2k you'll be hard pressed to get a decent performing engine. i say save up anohter thousand and get a crate motor

Coming from someone who flip-flops more than John Kerry about what he wants to own and who has posted his car and related parts on numerous occassions only to delete the posts because he decides he would be dumb to dump the extra money into a newer car when the one he has is paid for. Hmmm.

Don't listen to ******.

Can a 383 be done for $2000 to $3000? I got some friends at work who are old school hot rodders from way back saying I can do it for that cheap.

Just need the 350 block/bored and the stroker kit.....and of course some good heads.

true?

Re: I Got $2000..what can I do?

decent heads alone, at least enough to support a good 383 will run you most of your $2k budget.

you could skimp on the heads, but that is one of the most important components when it comes to power.

the idea of a fully forged 305 and then alot of nitrous would be badass! you can claim it is the original motor and then add 200hp in juice and run 12s all day. but still get great reliability and milage.

Get a set of used AFR heads and have them professionally ported and that will run you up most of your 2K. Save up more for the short block and then a little more for the intake.

id say a used Lt1 but then youd have to get a differant tranny most likely. id go with a 383 stroker. if you do oit yourself or have some do it for you will be the differance of whether it can be done with 2gs

You still need headwork to make any kind of power. Spend money on the heads first then change the crappy intake and then maybe some cam of sorts.

If I have someone who will put the engine together for me for nothing. Then how much does a 383 actually cost?
stroker kits $1000 and the block is what? then the heads are?

A good set of ported heads are around $2K. What sort of stroker kit? Forged pistons? At that price, probably not. Unless you are going over 600 HP, I doubt you will need a forged crank but it needs to be balanced anyways. You'd need to have a friend that has a machine shop to clearence the crank, balance and blueprint the engine.

Id say buy a 400 block, have a set of Vortec heads ported, buy a compatable intake, and carb. Put together a decent rotating assembly with Eagle SiRs, and SRP pistons or the like. Then spray it. That would be roughly your $2k maybe a little more. Save a little more cash for a stall, sticky tires and Subframes you should be pretty deep into the 12's.

My local engine builder, a good 'ol boy who builds engines for the local circle track guys, built a 383 for me for just under $2500. I didn't have a 350 block or anything. That's the whole shebang, oil pan, intake, heads, everything, minus carburetor, distributor, alternator, pulleys, pumps, etc. So, you're not going to make your $2000 mark.

BUT, if you have a local do it, tell him there's no rush at all. Make a nice down payment, $500 maybe. It will take awhile to get the thing done. Save money during that time. If you can save another $500 in three or four months, you'll have the cash when it's finished. My guy was busy as all get out. It took him like a year to get it done, seriously. You may need another $500-$800 to get it in the car and running, but once you have that baby in your garage, you'll save money like a miser. It took me a year and a half to have my car done, but it seemed like only a few months, and I was in high school.

Also, check out eBay.
