Coil spring Installation
Coil spring Installation
Ok I've been trying for 2 days to get the coil springs back into the front of my car with no success. How do you do it. I've been using a spring compresser as much as i can along with a floor jack and it's just not working. The manual says to bolt up the ball joint and the strut and then jack the control arm into place I just tried that as a last resort with near disasterous results when the jack lifted the car off the jack stands. Any sugestions would be greatly appriciatded

compress the hell out of the springs and stuff em up in there, connect the strut and decompress the spring once the strut is installed. it will decompress and sit itself on the perch. since the strut is installed, it will not cause the arm to fall or the car to rise. sometimes its easier to take the bolt off the back of the arm and do it from behind, depending on the situation. hope this has been helpful
curious, did you get new springs or struts or... ? if so what did you go with?

Like everybody else, you're doing it the hard way. I did the same thing too. After fighting with it for nearly an hour, I decided to do it the same way you would on a Fox Mustang. After sway bar end link removal unbolt the LCA bolts from the K-member. Leave the strut alone, leave the brakes alone, leave the balljoint alone. No spring compressor needed. Drop the LCA with the jack and remove the spring. Reinstall spring and then jack up the control arm into place. LF sde the hard way took over an hour. RF side using this method took about 10 minutes.
Just remember to support the LCA with the jack BEFORE unbolting the LCA
