Clutch/Clutch Pedal problem

I recently bought a 1983 Z28 5 speed. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing. The pedal was high, out of adjustment, and was very hard to press. Now the pedal is where it should be, but there is no adjustment left and it still feels terrible. Can I replace the fork and or ball without taking everything apart again? I thought the fork looked ok. It looks like it might be possible to get at the ball. I realize it could also be the z-bar/cross shaft, but it seems worst at the fork while someone else is pushing the pedal. The rod from the pedal is also rubbing the firewall as it comes though the firewall. Any suggestions?
