Unhappy Clunk Noise from Rear

I just noticed a clunk that happens only on quick acceleration. The kind you need to chirp the tires. Under normal accereration there is no noise at all from the rear. I looked under the car but did not see any shocks broken. Any suggestions on what to look for?

well my 86 iroc did this when i first got the car. when i accelerated quickly or came to a quicker tehn normal stop, there was a cluncking sound from the rear of my car. it ended up being my torque bar *traction bar*. the mount/bushings were bad. but my g/fs 94 firebird started to do the same thing. it was here bushing/mount to her tranny. the torque bar cost me like $100 and $40 labor to put in and the tranny mount cost $50 *polyuritane* and $50 to put in,

Change your trans mount, it sounds like you are getting a lot of pinion angle under hard acceleration, causing the rear u-joint to make niose.

Another vote for the trans mount. Mine recently broke and it was sounding like the rearend was sliding back and forth upon acceleration. A friend guessed the trans mount and i was like.."No way, that makes a hard clunk sound"...Sure enough he was right. Buy a Polyurethane piece from Energy Suspension. It should cost like $20 or $40.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get it to the shop and mention the tranny mount and traction bushings. I find it hard to believe that it is either one of those things. The car has only 61,000 miles and is garaged all winter. It still looks pretty good underneath. But what do I know, that's why I asked you guys. Thanks

tranny mounts are nutoriously bad on camaros. Averageing only like 60-100k miles. and the more you beat on it the more often you have to shange them.

i broke like 3 of them when my car was a wimpy 2.8l, in less than 20k miles, over about a 2yr timespan, i think the motor mounts were shot cuz, the v-8 has only broken one, and that one had spent some time with the v-6

Cool

You guys nailed it again. Just got under the car with a new transmission mount. When I jacked up the tranny, the mount was split in two. The tranny mount only cost $5.41. I'm not complaining, but was that too cheap? My car does have 61,000 miles, so I guess I was due for this. Can I go back to chirping the tires again?
