Question Close Ratio Steering Box???

What is a close ratio steering box and what is a (277) close ratio steering box? How will this help me, what are the effects of having this? How do I tell a close ratio steering box from a stock version?

Visibly the close ratio steering box has a large Z cast in the housing. Other than that they look identical to a regular steering box. If you had each side by side, the close ratio steering box would turn from stop to stop with less turns on the steering wheel.

The numbers are not exact but I think a regular steering box goes stop to stop in 4 turns while a close ratio box does it in 3.

Is there an RPO code for this option? Or is it standard on G92 cars?

To my knowledge there is no RPO code for a quick ratio box.

If the third gen came with 15" rims then it didn't have a quick ratio. Just about every third gen with 16" rims should have a quick ratio box.

My 91 454SS truck came with 15" rims and 275/60R15 tires from the factory. It has a quick ratio box. My car originally had a quick ratio box but I sold it and put on a manual steering box.

So I have a 86 Iroc with 16" Rims So I need to be looking for a large Z in the housing of my Steering box and if I do than I have a close ratio box? And is that 3 turns to stop is a close ratio correct?

Let me know.. see one on Ebay for sale gathering all the parts I can..

I just checked the one in my truck. The steering wheel turns stop to stop in 2 3/4 turns.
