clicking when attempting to start

i have an '88 iroc-z, quite often, but not all the time when i try to start it there is a clicking noise, and im not sure what it is, it will just click and nothing, sometimes i have to turn the key up to 10 times before it will finally turn over, any suggestions?

Could be your battery or alt.

Work the cables on your batt. and see if just aint gettin fire

has your alt. ever been rebuilt?

If so was it done in the last year?

alt's are really bad to go out on camaros

if it keeps doing it after you have worked the batt cables, then take it to a shop.

Yep, mine did the same thing - it was a bad ground. Check all your battery connections to and from the starter.

my car did the same thing i found out that the starter was bad. so i bought a rebuilt and the same thing happend 1 month after. i found out that my y pipe was running right next to the starter and it ended up frying the motor or solenoid so the only way i was able to cure the problem was to get a really good starter and put that thermal wrap around it. Havent had a problem ever since

Definitely check the terminals first for corrosion, etc. Do the cheap stuff first!
