clean fuel filter swap?

i was told that pulling the connector with the purple, grey and black wires in front of the gas tank releives the fuel pressure so you dont take a bath of gas when you change your filter. is this true, and if so, should i unplug it and let the car run until it looses fuel pressure? thanks!

That's the fuel pump connector. Unplugging it and then cranking the car will indeed relieve the fuel pressure, but it's still gonna **** a little because even with no pressure there is still some fuel left in the lines. There's no reason not to, but it isn't really required either.

No need...

when i changed my fuel filter, i just opened my fuel tank and left it open... so no pressure was in the tank right? but yeah gas still dripped out but not too bad... i think it would have been easier if the whole car was jacked up.... i had my one side up so it dripped out all funny...
but yeah good luck with it.

if its an efi car, just push in on the schrader valve on the fuel rails. running your injectors dry is a very bad thing.

and that filter needs to be replaced every 10.000 miles to keep any kind of performance in your car.

my friend has an ls1 car, quit barking 3rd.... we changed the filter and its back to barking 3rd

thank god the filter is ONE easy thing to do on our cars
