Carburetors and emissions.
I've been doing some thinking. I want to pull the LT1 and put in a 355 Carbed engine. Im think maybe a mid 12 sec 1/4 on motor. The only thing is, I live in Houston, and emissions testing is a problem. How hard would it be for me to get a setup of this type to pass? I know I will need cats and wat not, and some de-tuning of the carburetor, but how feasable is this? It's an 87 Camaro.
Eh, to get that power, you are gonna need a radical cam as well. Carb+big cam = bad emissions. They have additives that dilute your readings, one of them is called "guaranteed to pass", but I can't vouch for it. Basically, you are going to have to find a small shop that does inspections and have the guy "pass it" after slipping him a couple of benjamins...
Friend of mine who owns a 350 chevelle with a 268hr cam and 650 demon carburetor has to pay 350$ every two years at a shop around here to get them to tune the carb to "pass".
