Car wouldn't go into overdrive, now it does

I had this strange thing happen awhile back. I had my car in at a shop that I used to go to before they went out of business. They did real hack jobs on customers cars. Anyway, I had a transmission service and other misc. work performed. When I got the car back, I realized it wouldn't go into overdrive, even though I had the shift lever in the overdrive position. I would go on the freeway at 85 and it would not go into overdrive.

So I brought it back to them and they looked at my like I was crazy. They took it for a test drive, came back, poked around a little bit under the car and told me they didn't see any problem and that it was going into overdrive for them. I said, WTF!! Took it out for a test drive myself, and sure enough, it was now going into overdrive. How is that possible? I asked them if they fixed anything and they swore they didn't touch a thing. We're they pulling my chain? Is there some connector that is easy to get to that they could've plugged in really quick??
