Car turns over but won't start

I'm new here trying to get a 1987 Iroc back on the road.I know it ran when it was parked a few years ago . Now it will turn over but will not start. also see that the check engine light is on. Any help on what to check or do would be great. Looking for a place to start on this problem. I do see spark at the plugs.

under the dash at your right knee cap is a plug. take a paperclip and bend it into a U shape. you want to put the clip in the A and B terminals. this will be the upper 2 right holes in this plug.

one leg of the clip goes in each hole. then turn the key to the on pos but DONT START. your check eng light will start flasshing a code 12, this is ok because its telling the ECM its not getting a spark sig. disregard this code. it will flas 1 and then 2 flashes. it will do this 3 times then move to the next code.

write each code down and when it returns back to code 12. go to thirdgen.org and they have a listing of codes to tell you whats going on.

as for no turnover. yank plug wire off, stick a screwdriver in the cap, hold it to the strut screws but dont touch. have someone turn the car over and if you get a spark. if you dont then it might be your ign module.

If you have spark, that means you probably have a fuel problem, check to see if the pump is priming

Drain the fuel and put new gas in before you gum the fuel system up with that old gas. Thats prolly the issue and you should change the fuel filter too.
