cam specs ?

im building up a 383 on a old style non roller block thinking about going with flat top 4 valve relief piston edelbrock e-tec 200 heads or gm fastburns stilll gonna tpi either gonna run a super ram upper and runners or accel runner with a stock plenum 58mm tb and 30lb injectors but heres my question im thinking about running a comp cam xtreme energy xe268h (grind number 12-242-2) 224-230 duration @.050 and .477-.480 lift but i was gonna go with a 1.6 ratio rocker so lift would be .508-.512 but the only thing is the lobe sep. angel is 110 i was wondering if that would be to small for a fuel injection computer controled car, there is one that is recommended for tpi cars(grind number 12-268-4) with the same lift and duration but a 114 lobe sep angel, what kind of difference in power would this result in, i thought anything lower then 112 would cause problems ? or is this incorrect ? or do you have any other good suggestions for a cam ?

thanx steve

Re: cam specs ?

i have used the 110 lobe sep cams in tpi motors they need to be chipped,i run the comp.286hr10 560* 230 @.050 i will say this though if use a stock type tpi system it will suck, this type of cam likes mini ram/lt1 intake or a HSR.

Re: cam specs ?

yeh i think stock tpi style plenums sucks and theres no helping it im running a roller 350 bored 40 over flat top 4 valve relief pistons vortec heads (2.02-1.60's) 218-224@.050 and .498-.502 lift with a 52mm tb accell runners stock plenum everything gasket matched and 24lb'ers then a 2200 stall with a 3.73 and it dont seem that fast to me although i havent got any times or have had it tuned but i dont think a tune would make that much of a difference, so that why im building up this 383 and really thinkin about that super ram... hoping this setup would be a bit more pleasing

Re: cam specs ?

Stop second guessing yourself and take it to the track and get it tuned. Another 30 cubes isn't going to make that much of a difference, especially if it isn't tuned and the correct combo. You need more stall, the 2200 is to small, try to find a used 2800 stall convertor. I've used the 2200, it doesn't compare. You want the convertor to come on a little under peak torque. Take it to the track first. There also is nothing wrong with the stock tpi system, it does good for what it was designed for.

If you have the chip tuned correctly you will be just fine with the 110 LSA. That is what I am going to be running in my 383, if it ever gets built. There is someone else on this board running a 110 LSA in a 383 that is doing just fine.

Re: cam specs ?

The obvious answer is learn how to do it yourself. This way you will be able to data log the car along with being able to test it after each run. But you can try Ed Wright or PCMs for less. Those are 2 companies that I have friends who have used and are happy with them.
