Is this cam overkill in a 85 l98

I plan to switch to a roller in my tpi, will this need a new chip? idle?

236/236 114 lobe sep angle....

If you have a stock engine otherwise, I would not use that cam. It's fairly aggressive but you need a shorter runner intake to use it in the higher RPM range it is designed for, and a higher stall converter. Ported heads would help a lot, also. Your stock L98 is torque biased down low due in large part to the long TPI runners. Installing that cam in a stock L98 is not a good match. Looks to me like it was used in a 383 stroker engine, as it says 'small base circle'. In that application, it would be more appropriate for a street car as the longer stroke can use more duration.

ZZ4 cam would be a good choice, if you are going to keep your stock TPI induction with the stock or larger aftermarket runners.

too much duration for the amount of lift. Plus, for the massive expense required to convert an old block to use a roller cam, it's a complete waste. Just buy a nice flat tappet cam for $150 and be done with it.

I used the Accel 74219 cam but if you call Lingenfelter, they will probably advise you on another cam unless you want to do future mods.

all you guys are rattling off roller cam combos. That's great if you've got a roller block, but to convert with aftermarket roller crap is worthless unless you've got a combo so extreme that you're going to actually realize a horsepower benefit from the roller grinds.

While TPI does seem to work better with a roller grind that slams the valves open and closed faster, unless you're dealing with a pretty wild combo, you're probably not going to get more than a couple extra horsepower by using a roller setup. Unless you're beginning to be using a cam that's wild enough to be pushing the envelope for a flat tappet setup, you're just pissing money away.
