Cam Opinions

I'm looking to do a head/cam swap around spring and have a good bit of $$, nearly enough to get what I want. The only thing I'm not yet set on is which cam to run, I've been eyeing Comp Cams XR282HR, specs 230/236 .510/.520 110 LSA. Now I'm looking to run the biggest cam I can with 0 vacuum issues and have a decent idle (around 1k RPMS) for the street, even though this isn't a DD. I'm going to increase the lift with 1.6rr as well, and the heads I'm looking at are 190cc and flow about what AFR 195s do. I would like to hear any opinions on this cam from those who have used it, I'd like to see 400rwhp.

Dude, You don't need to spend too much more money on your Camaro because the way you drive it in that video it's not going to be around much longer. Anyways I hear the Lingenfetter is the way to go. Goodluck

Why you gotta be an *** like that. Who cars how he drives his car. Keep your ignorant opinions to yourself and stick to the topic.

Re: Cam Opinions

Crower makes a nice 218/224@50 on a 112+4 and it WILL make plenty of power and has manners. I have used this one on some 355's and had them outrun 383's. No brake issues.

Re: Cam Opinions

I've also been told the CC306 is good too, but I've heard mixed reviews as to its driveability. I just read that thread about having a huge cam vs driveability and am looking to hit the happy medium.

Re: Cam Opinions

Yeah it is a 350. The heads I'm going to buy can flow 249 @ .400 and 259 @ 500, I figure with a good tune 400rwhp won't be too difficult with the proper cam. However 385 or so won't disappoint me, especially if it means gaining a bit of driveability.

Re: Cam Opinions

www.tristatecylinderhead.com/trithunder.htm

These are the heads I'm probably going to get, they sent me these flow #s:

Intake Valve Test @ 28” of Water
.100 .200 .300 .400 .500 .600 .700
69 144 201 249 259 266 274

Exhaust Valve Test @ 28” of Water
.100 .200 .300 .400 .500 .600 .700
52 99 157 174 183 189 193

Along with that cam I mentioned earlier, I am considering the CC306 and GM 846 as well. I'm just looking to get as close to 400 to the wheels without cam surge or vacuum loss.

i think his driving is perfectly fine...I mean thats what you build them for, right?? I mean you don't build a 400 horse street car like mine to go putt putt around town...

Re: Cam Opinions

i like my cam, its streetable, but still has that nice lumpyness to her. According to comp cams its one of the biggest street cams that he would want to drive around. its a XR276HR... specs 224/230 .503/.510 lift, then .533/.543 with 1.6 RR's like I got...

I think i coudl withstand a bit more of a cam on the street, but it might get annoying if everything isn't set up right..

Re: Cam Opinions

Thanks klumb, that is the kind of feedback I was looking for. That is cam is also in the range that I'm considering.

Re: Cam Opinions

To me, the 230/236 seems a Bit big ESPECIALLY on a 110 LSA to idle nicely with 0 vacuum issues. Mine was 228/234 on a 112LSA and it barely held on to enough vacuum when doing a "panic" stop to keep the engine running, Now, I guess that it could be programmed maybe with some extra IAC counts to make up for it, but i was literally about to get a vacuum cannister.

Also, might want to get those heads ported if you have the cash. 240-250cfm is respectable but if you're looking to make real power you need to be bordering on 300cfm.

Re: Cam Opinions

I figured those flow #s would be good enough, since stock head LS1s hit 400rwhp all the time with a little less flow then that. If I had a bigger budget then yes, I would get higher flowing heads.
