Cam Opinions

Re: Cam Opinions
I guess the GM 846 is my best bet then, it is 222/230 .509/.528 (with 1.5) and 112 LSA. I just need to hear people's experiences because some people think 234/242 is streetable while others don't like to smell like gas at idle and go with something small like a hotcam.

Re: Cam Opinions
those specs sound pretty good. No experience with that cam tho. I think alot of people make too big of a deal out of hogging out your heads, don't get me wrong its nice to have some huge flowing heads, but not many people put them to thier full potential anyways. I was gonna get mine all hogged out when i did my motor, because they are alum L98's, not the best flowing out there but they flow alright. Then i read some guy is running mid 12's with iron L98's. I don't know what your goals are, but low 12's sounds capable with your setup, and everybody said mid 12's is capable for my setup, so i'm happy with that. Good luck

Re: Cam Opinions
Aluminum L98s are what I am stuck with right now, and I'm looking to unload them ASAP. I'm actually gunning for 11.6-11.9, I've seen a TON of cars in the 370rwhp range hit that. With 1.6rr the GM 846 would work out to 222/230 .543/.563 112 LSA, just a smidge bigger than your cam. If it doesn't have vacuum loss or low end tq issues, I'll be happy.

That would be ~391 to the rear wheels using the GM 846 and AFR 195s, so it looks like my goal is reasonable.

These are the heads I'm probably going to get, they sent me these flow #s:
Intake Valve Test @ 28” of Water
.100 .200 .300 .400 .500 .600 .700
69 144 201 249 259 266 274
Exhaust Valve Test @ 28” of Water
.100 .200 .300 .400 .500 .600 .700
52 99 157 174 183 189 193
Along with that cam I mentioned earlier, I am considering the CC306 and GM 846 as well. I'm just looking to get as close to 400 to the wheels without cam surge or vacuum loss.

i dont know man, 400rwhp without cam surge or vacuum loss on a 350. may the force be with you.

LS1 and those heads are a diff breed of head.

Re: Cam Opinions
yea you can't compare any older gen small block with an Ls1...just something about them, its easy to make a bunch of power with them...
but 400 RWHP with no cam surge nor vacuum loss is near impossible in my eyes. I have an approximately 375 horse engine, and guess what I have both. I put in a vacuum canister tho, so that solved that problem. still have some cam surge at idle tho. But on the other side of the spectrum, you don't need 400rwhp to get into the 11's either. It doesn't matter how much power you have, if you can't get it to the ground whats the point. I think with a 400-450 horse hp engine, you should have no problem getting in the 11's, that will be 350-375 to the wheels. But i don't see something like that not having cam surge or vaccuum loss...good luck tho

i totally agree. i think 91 Z-28 needs to do a little more homework, so pun intended bro! i have seen countless 350's on dyno's, Gen 1 stuff, never seen a N/A 400rwhp yet.
klumb? do u have any dyno graphs with your car? what pwr does it make?

u think he will see 400rwhp which is around 475chp with a 350, without a problem?
there will be tuning issues!

that is still 1.15RWHP per cubic inch.
the 06Z06, and the viper dont even do that. like i said its tough to do. it can be done, but its just not easy with a TPI type setup. LSx is a whoe diff ballgame. my buddy got 448rwhp with head/cam on his 02 SS(348 c.i.d.).
