Cam, Heads, Intake Combo

Yea I know there is so much on the forum about this. And I probably looked at just about all the posts. I got plenty of ideas but I want to see which combination you guys would recommend.

Alright here are my options so far:

Vortec heads with the intake baseplate and a hot cam.

L98 corvette heads (with my TPI intake, think it bolts up) or an alternative intake I havent found yet and a cam.

LT1 heads and intake with a cam to match

Some kind of aftermarket heads by like Dart, Trick Flow, or like Iron Eagle. I cant afford those AFR's that I want so bad. And then a cam to the specs of the head and then some kind of intake???

Basically I want to do heads cam and an intake the start of this summer. I will have $1500 cash to start off with and then some credit cards when the times get tough. I am leaning towards the vortec heads setup of the L98 corvette heads. What do you guys think. Which would probably get me the most power? Thanks guys. All opinions are encouraged.

well since your running tpi I`d go with the vortec`s good #`s for the $...the port design/chamber(170cc runners&64cc chambers) is a direct copy of the lt1 head so you`d have decent flow outta the box if you wanted to buy a matching intake, or modd yours

The l98 corvette heads are okay after you port the living ***t out of `em.(155cc runners& 58 cc chamber)

Unless your dumping that TPI sys, all the aftermarkets would be a waste of money, your intake is the major restriction. The stock tpi intake will bottle neck those vortec`s. I have a friend that has modded many vortec`s to take the standard intake pattern, so you could get away without a new base but, it would still limit the potential of those vortec`s.

Buy the best heads you can and the hell witht he intake for now. Later when you get more money you can go with say HSR if you don't have emmissions issues or say a used SR.

You can port your TPI to flow descent. I would do that and get good heads. Stay with a mild cam (LT1 or LT4) and put some 1.6 rockers on it. You won't have to have a chip burnt for it that way. I agree with aklim here in that the heads are where to drop the $$$, and it will run good. I siamesed my lower plenum, which is considered by some to be taboo, but it pulls out to a higher rpm now than it did stock (6000) and traps 105mph. Dollar for dollar, best mod is to get good heads. If you go with a SR you need to plan on getting a convertor also because you are going to lose a lot of torque down low.

I had the Accel Tri-Ys and the SR intake and didn't need a Torque Converter. I only had to install a 500 above stock stall once I changed the camshaft.
