Cable attachd to ignition switch in '85

I'm helping a guy out with his '85 Camaro. Can someone tell me what that cable attached to the ignition switch is for. Ive owned a couple Camaros and I have never seen this before. How do you get it off to replace the ignition switch? Thanks

The cable that's attached to the steering column? In automatic cars it goes to the park / gear selector.

I'm thinking that the cable in question might be to lock the transmission into Park when your ignition key is not present in the ignition.

yeah, it is

I never messed with it, when the switch failed in my 89, I put a switch off a truck on, it didn't even have a spot for it, and the cable was messed up anyway
