removing the smog pump (it's a pulley under the ac compressor) just frees up some room in your engine compartment... i dont think it'll give you much power, atleast you won't notice it... 2 hp to the wheels maybe? lol

btw... why are you taking out the ac?

take out the smog pump and all the equipment, put a a/c delete pulley, and get a march crank and alt pulley and you'll gain about 10-20 hp from this... you'll notice a difference

what if you got v-belts, then you dont need any pullys or anything right? becasue i have an 83 lg4 and i have v belts,

so if i wanted to i could bassically just cut the a/c belt off if i wanted to?

or would i need to adjust tension on the other belts to even things out?

In that case just take the belts off the a/c and the smog pump and you are done.

whats up,
the reasoning behind taking out my a/c is that i never use the a/c, and secondly i've read theres a good amount of weight in that system near 70lbs, to reply to rage, yes my system does work, its not the coldest a/c in the world but yes it does work fine, email me if you are serious about it....i figure with the one pulley freed up, the 70lbs gone and all that space opened up it would just be better.
and you said the smog pump is pulley driven?
again appreciate the advice and info

Tell you one thing though, after you remove it, changing sparkplugs and even installing headers will be SOOOOOOOOO much easier.
