so its time for spark plugs. i always use ac rapid fires. easyier up top or from the bottom just thought id ask. and changing the fuel filter i can just crack the nut slightly to relieve pressure o dont have to really got hru all that unplug and crank crap do i, and on my trans fluid change. dropping the pan and refilling with a new filter is ok or should i take it to firestone and have the whole thing evacuated.

Your best bet with the trans is to find a place with a T-tech machine. It'll actually cycle almost 5 gallons of clean fluid through the trans instead of just a drain & fill. Since the 700-R4 only holds about 3 gallons, you're talking about a complete fluid change, and 2 gallons extra to carry out that much more grunge. Most places just use a sort of vacuum to suck the fluid out of the pan through the dipstick tube and fill it back up, which doesn't get any of the fluid in the valve body or torque coverter. It's like changing your oil, but only draining 2 quarts then refilling. A T-tech (or similar flushing machine) works MUCH better. I know all this because we have one at my shop and I use it 2-3 times a week.


On the fuel filter, I've done MANY of them without releasing the pressure first. Just have a pan or something to catch the fuel and don't have your face too close when you loosen the filter (it's gonna spray out.)


As for plugs....I don't have much advice. It's been too long since I did them in a stock-exhaust or emissions-riddled car.

You do actually drop the pan and change the filter when you do that right?
Its easy enough to do at home. Drop the pan, change the filter, fill the pan, disconnect the trans cooler line going to the radiator, and rig it to drain into a pan, bucket whatever, have a bunch of open containors of trans fluid, have someone start the car, and let the pouring begin, when clean fluid starts to come out, or you know you have about 8 quarts out, shut off the car. You might need to shut it off half way to catch up, its not good to let the tranny run dry even while not driving it.
You know if you have gone more than 20 or 30k since the last change it could screw the tranny right?

As for the fuel filter, the time it takes to pull a fuse and crank a few seconts sure beats risking getting fuel sprayed in your face

I would just like to say also for no apparent reason that anyone who says changing plugs on a 305 is hard id a damn liar

If it has been a while since your last tranny service, I would drop the pan so you can see the condition of the filter and change it. Then go get someone to flush the tranny to clear out all the fluid. I usually go filter, filter and flush, filter, etc.

so ill drop the pan change the filter fill it with the 4 or 5 quarts that came out then drive to firestone for the complete evacuate

I don't get it, why not just take it to a shop and have them do the whole thing rather than spend the money to do it yourself, then pay someone to do it.

well because the tranny flush dosent include the filter swap.so someone has to do the filter swap. so i really dont feel comfortable ****ing with my tranny like that so i let the machine take care of the complicated stuff rather spend an extra 20 bucks and have peace of mind ya know.

firestone charges 49,99 just to flush it out. dosent include the filter so ill spend the extra 20 bucks on the filter im saying

$25 bucks for the filter and gasket, then I think you will need abut 6 quarts to refill the tranny. So 35-40 for the pan after tax and crap, then another $50 for the flush. Not too bad, most shops around here get about $80 for a filter change.

Problem with our tranny is that you cannot drain the torque converter. More than half is in your TC so when you drop the pan, you are getting about 1/3 of the total capacity. You want to change the filter and have a fresh one then you can flush it to get all the remaining fluid out. Next time, all you need is the flush. However, the time after that, you want to check it for any problems by pulling the pan.
