Best way to reach computer on 87 Trans Am??

Best way to reach computer on 87 Trans Am??

Im trying to change the chip on my 87 Trans Am, but its hard to get to the computer, what do you guys recommend. Thanks

You have to unscrew what I will call the "kick panel" on the passenger side and drop it down. Then there are two screws holding the computer inplace. Unscrew those and the computer will drop down for easy access. Hope this helps.

yep, done it 1000 times,
which chip did you get?
custom is 10 times better

I got one from Ed Wright Fastchip. So the computer isnt up in the dash?

it is, but if you drop the panel on the passenger side, you'll be able to see it, then undo the other screws and slide it down

There's a plastic post on the top of the ECM that fits in a hole in the bracket, will drop right out but make sure you get it back in right in the hole.

I did it this last weekend, but I had the pass. seat out for other reasons.

I laid with my head facing up so I could see and just popped the 2 bolts out, popped the clamps out and stuck the new chip in, and put it back together.

Took me maybe 15 minutes?
