Best mods to start out with

Sup, lets say I have a 1500 dollar budget for first mods. Now for my car I currently have I messed around with pretty bad mods like CAI,Exhaust,Plugs/Wires, and some other stuff, when I should have got 2 cams and a UDP.

What are the best mods to start out with, basically what's cheap that adds maximum hp or t?

ty again, i'm really starting to get interested in the 3Gs

Thanks, this is actually exactly what I needed, I don't have a large amount of money to mod right now, this should do. Like your car btw.

Subframe connectors are a must, for any F-body. If you knew how much your car flexes and twists you'd be amazed...a good set of SFCs will cure most of that. They'll tighten up the chassis, make her feel better on the straights and in the turns, let the suspension do its job, and possibly even take away some of the ever-present rattles in these cars. Run a search here and in the Suspension section of www.thirdgen.org (there are several in-depth threads on SFC comparisons there) and decide which design you like best. Order them up and get them welded in and you won't believe the difference. If you're ambitious and somewhat good with steel you can even fabricate your own and have them for less than $50.

SFC, DS loop. None of these add anything but weight. They will stiffen your car up and the keep it safe should the DS break. Strut connectors if you like to corner a lot. Better shocks. Do that first and then go with the engine.

Intake for TPI would be a must and headers and exhaust.

On the same thirdgen.org site in the Tech Data section is a link to the Ultimate TBI mods. See that.

I dont understand why subframe connectors are the first thing people suggest people add to their cars. The first things I would do would be:

headers
stall converter
gears

Seen any 350 stick convertables from the factory?

The subframe is not the greatest. Keep stressing it out till it is too late and you may regret it.

I run 12.6's on bfg radial t/a tires on bone stock suspension with the bone stock subframes (which are ::drum roll:: fine with that kind of power). 99% of thirdgenners wont be cutting 60 foots that could damage the stock subframe because they are too scared of breaking their 7.5" 10 bolt rearends anyway.

If you are bothered by creaks and squeeks, then maybe sfc's are a good investment. But shelling out that kind of cash for your first mod is just dumb to me.

couple hundred bucks for a little peace of mind is a good start in my books although they are only truly important if you plan on building a powerful car. It kind of all goes along with the though process where you should upgrade your tranny and rear end before the engine because by the time you NEED to do them its already too late.....same sort of idea with sfc's

I don't know about you but I have been diagnosed with endcap walk. I had to put a TA cover on the rear end to make it better. I know that the next time I will take it out completely. I have an Auburn Pro Series posi that is weak. I have broken my rear gears twice already. Last time we had to ding the part where the axel bearings go on to so we could put something to seal it because the bearings should have to be pressed onto the carrier and not just slid on. Next time, I'll go for the Ford 9 in.

Also, I took out the SFCs once because I had to get frame work done and noticed that the car was not as stiff as it could be going round a corner.

I am not a "fuel-injection" person.. so I stay away from that **** (lol)
BUT.. for all the Carb-ies out there:
New carb
New intake to go with it
Headers
Bigger, better branded exhaust
Heads
Rear End
and last but not least, cam.
Do the cam last so you can work around everything with your specs.
Later,
Matt
