Re: Best heads

Lets start with your budget....how much do you have to spend?

We can say that iron vortechs are good heads for $500ish complete.

However a set of aluminum E-Tec heads are even better, and they are about $1100 complete.

Re: Best heads

if you go with the Vortec heads and want to run a decent cam,you should buy them already upgraded w/ screw-in studs, and bigger springs to handle the lift b/c the stock ones that come on them wont.

the vavle seat has to be machined out to make room for the larger springs as well.

i bought mine for like 500-600 of a company off ebay brand new with screw in studs, bigger springs, and guideplates so i didnt have to use self aligning rocker arms.

they are awesome street heads for the money, its hard to beat them i think.

you can buy them directly from GM performance parts,or pretty much and machine shop that messes with cylinder heads being that they are a GM production head.

hope that helps

Re: Best heads

yea that helps..thanks

Well here is the cam ive got in the engine right now...this is the cam id like to build the engine around..

Comp Cams Roller Cam - 224I,230E @.50/
.513"I,.520"E

My heads are i guess "knocking"...so I'm rebuilding this engine, and this cam in it is fairly new so id like to rebuild the motor around it.

Re: Best heads

I just call it knocking...idk what it is, its like a ticking, and it gets louder as the revs go up. It sounds like a loose rocker tapping, but honestly i dont know. It sounds like its coming from the back of the drivers side head. But anyway the motors shot, she blows blue/black smoke and cant idle. The previous owner did his own port and polish to the intake and heads, so there ruined, the passanger side header is warped..etc (just to name a few things wrong with it). I tried getting it to run right, but its not worth it, id rather just rebuild.

Re: Best heads

heads are ticking? thats probably valve guides that are worn out.

a machine shop can fix that by installing brass valve guides in the heads, shuold take care of the problem...but your lookin to ditch them anyway,so F it.

finding an intake for Vortec heads is cake.

they make the Performer RPM,the Air-Gap,and maybe the regular Performer, not too sure on that one though,to fit vortec heads.

Re: Best heads

Point him in a direction folks!

www.sdpc2000.com

Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center has about all you'll need. Upgraded Vortec heads for a roller cam, TPI Vortec compatible intake base, New Roller rocker arms(Self aligning or non), pushrods if you need new ones, Guideplates if you don't get self aligning rocker arms, Gaskets, bolt kits, etc.

A 350 Vortec TPI engine will make for a great engine to drive with a ton of mid-range snap.

But we all know I'd swap to a Super Victor Vortec with a carb, A billy badass solid roller cam and forget about mid-range snap and focus on top end POWA!.

Re: Best heads

I researched heads for a while, and I came to the conclusion that the best heads for the money were the TFS-30400007. Go to summit racing and punch up that part number. THis heads for the money will run a cam up to a ,600 lift.
