bad fuel pump....

i am pretty sure my fuel pump went bad, the car won't run unless i spray throttle body cleaner in the intake and it runs for a few seconds. I recently changed the fuel filter so i don't think its that. I took the line off by the fuel filter that goes from the tank to the fuel filter. I turned the motor over and nothing was pumping out. So I am pretty sure its the pump. I thought maybe the fuel line froze but I don't think so. I let the car sit inside a garage for like 2 hrs to maybe melt a frozen fuel line, but that didn't do anything. So I am gonna change the fuel pump. I want to get one that will work good with the holley stealth ram. any ideas on what one i should get and some tips on changing it would be great.
thanks!!

Fuel pump is in the tank, right?? I know Holley makes some good pumps. If you go with something with a high gallon per hour, you may have to get an isolator to control your flow.

Its good that you checked the filter before even considering the pump.

Do you hear it running? An "intank" hose leak can bleed off pressure but you'll still hear it running. If it seems to run slow or low pitch it can mean it's bad too.

Do you have any spark?
**The absence of "spark and fuel" indicates a bad "pick up coil" in the distributor. It creates the reference pulses that is needed at the ECM for both to work.

**A bad relay can also stop the pump. There is a Red bypass wire that usually breaks out of the harness near the battery. Applying 12 volts to it will bypass the relay and eliminate it as a cause.

I bought a 255L/hr fuel pump online for $99...

i know its got spark because i was running it on throttle body cleaner for a few seconds too make sure it still has spark. i don't hear any noise coming from the pump, I am not sure if its getting power. can u explain in detail how to bypass the relay? can i jump directly from the battery to the pump wires? to change the fuel pump do you only have to drop the tank or ir is there a different way?
thanks

Change the whole " In the tank pump setup" If your camaro isn't your daily driver or even if it is try and do it quickly. Drop the exhaust and the panhand bar and drop the tank. Pull the pump assembly out and take it to a radiator repair shop and have them cut the pipe at the top of the pump and weld in a piece of tube the length of the assembly. Then cut the wires on the pump side of the assembly. and strip back the wires from the connector going to the pump those will be your power wires for your pump. Holley has a nice Universal In Line fuel pump. Hook it all back up and cut your lines some people do it near where your filter is now. Run your wires, put a filter before the pump and you get the rest of it.. You could even run all new lines if you want.. make sure your Fuel pressure regulator is working properly and get a Fuel pressure guage ( their a life saver) If you have any questions or anything let me know... Modifing the pump assembly is the hardest thing, but knowing that you will never have to drop that tank again is a beautiful thing..

Yes, find the red wire with a black spade connector on it hanging about 6"out of the main harnes. Usually it's near the battery, sometimes near the alternator. Connect it to the battery and if the pump is good it WILL run..
More than likely if you don't even hear it run for 2 - 3 seconds initially, it's bad....
Get the 255lph Walbro for $99...

is it a red wire just sitting there that isn't connected to anything? its it a wire that like just ends? or is it a connector u have to separate then apply 12 volts? i just want to make sure my pump is bad before i do this big job of changing it.

Don't cut a whole in your tank... Just don't put a pump back in the tank... You'll never have to do it again if you do it that way..

I removed the back seat-backs and cut an access panel out which was just long enough to get to everything. Then I fabbed a metal panel 2 inches larger than the hole on every side and used windshield roll caulk to seal it, fastening it with a few sheetmetal screws...
